On Saturday, February 17, 2024, recruits in the Firefighter class practiced with fire extinguishers and experienced their first live fire to learn fire behavior. At the end, students got together to have friendly two-minute drill competition where they practiced getting their gear on as quickly as possible while ensuring it is on correct.

On, Wednesday, October 18, 2023, St Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11 and 7 got together to train on vehicle extrication. Our area of the parish is no stranger to extreme car crashes. Depending on the extent of the damage, we may need to use tools and equipment to safely remove victims from a damaged vehicle. We have a wide array of options for what tools we can use depending on the situation, but it is important that we refresh and train on our equipment and techniques.

On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11 responded mutual aid for St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 7 on a residential structure fire.

Over the last several weeks, Washington Parish as well as Franklinton Fire Rescue have been fighting large woods fires. Record heat added into the mix has not helped. When we came across a post from the Chief of Franklinton Fire Rescue asking for help with water and sports drinks, we knew we needed to step up. We were able to secure a donation of water from our friends at Jubilee Foods and donations for sports drinks from our own firefighters. When our communities ask for help, we respond, so when other fire departments need help, we want to take care of that need as well. Today we made the trip with several other St. Tammany fire districts to Franklinton Fire Rescue and delivered hundreds of cases of water and sports drinks. From there, other fire districts in Washington Parish can go get what they may need.

Critical Incident / Hostile Event Training

On Monday, July 10, 2023 we hosted a Swift Water & Flood Rescue class at our training facility. This course is taught by Paul Fraser who is a Water Rescue Educator & Marine Safety Professional that runs Gulf State Dive and Rescue. On, Tuesday, July 11, 2023 participants went on a field trip to the outskirts of Picayune, MS at a spot on the Pearl River that is perfect for firsthand training. Participants learned how to throw ropes, swim to help a victim, operate small boats, pull victims from the water into a boat, and more. Other agencies involved in this training were Covington Fire Department, Donaldsonville Fire Department, Prairieville Fire Department, West Feliciana Parish Fire District 1 & Ascension Parish Fire District 1.
